What Reviewers Say...
Sunny Side Up
1994

In this, her fourth book of poetry, Lin Hsin Hsin ranges across a spectrum of human experience: from cosmetic surgery to charity; art to information technology; shopping to male-female relationships. her poems are accessible to all, have a lot to say about the contemporary society, and comprise a variety of charming juxtapositions of words and sounds that surprise, startle, and delight.

Some of Hsin Hsin's poems are educational, presenting better-than textbook definitions and explanations for the difficult computer jargon and acronyms.

In fact, I found the entire book was extremely entertaining, full of WYSIWYG humor & wit. The cartoons, the paintings and the melodic verses make it truly a Multimedia Poetry Book.

Lin Hsin Hsin's new collection is a kaleidscope of entertaining poetry. She draws her themes from both the serious and the trivial; you will find powerful evocations of the horrors of the Gulf War side by side with whimisical commentories on lucky draws and closing-down sales. Yet whatever the subject you are drawn in by the deceptive simplicity of the lanuage and the form of the poems. Once inside, you find yourself confronted by a new and unusual viewpoint, often expressed with a gentle humour, which obliges you to re-examine your own assumptions on matters great and small.

In these apparently effortless poems there is therefore a range of subtleties streaks of brightness and shadow and great variation of colours which move the reader no less than those who look properly at the apparently light abstractions of her paintings.
