MUSIC Series
JKLM
It is not uncommon for one art form to influence another, for instance,
literature on music. It is perhaps not so common to find music the source of
inspiration for painting.
Quite understandably though, it is the glorious music of some of the greatest
composers like Mozart, Handel, Liszt and Vivaldi that have moved prolific artist,
Lin Hsin Hsin, to put her emotions on canvas and given rise to a whole series of
some 45 paintings and prints entitled Abstraction in Music.
It is a delightful challenge for the viewer to try and hear, through Lin's
strongly individualistic works, the sounds which she has heard. Like a conductor,
she has given her interpretation of the music but on canvas. She has moved from
one universal language to another to try and share her feelings with others.
Not only has Lin been influenced by the beautifully tampered sounds of man-made
music but has also found the untamed sounds of nature to be just as inspiring.
The latter has produced the petite series, works executed on a special paper --
lama paper from Nepal.
The subtle colours of both paintings and prints have as much lyricism as the
music which gave birth to them.
