It gives me great pleasure to write this foreword to Lin Hsin Hsin's sixth anthology of poems.
Singapore is very fortunate to have a group of multi-talented artists. Hsin Hsin is one of them. She is a very accomplished visual artist. I had the great pleasure of opening one of her exhibitions at the National Museum a few years ago. I was in Washington DC with the Singapore Embassy when it acquired one of her paintings for its collection.
In addition, Hsin Hsin is an expert in information and communication technology. She has successfully brought art and technology together and is regarded by many as one of our foremost digital and multi-media artists. She has participated in digital media festivals in Austria, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Japan and USA. The Lin Hsin Hsin Art Museum, posted on the net since 1995, has been visited by 76 million visitors from 122 countries. In 1996, she was invited to be one of the six judges of a competition held in the US to select the best museums web sites in the world.
Apart from art and digital technology, Hsin Hsin is also an accomplished musician and poet. Since 2001, she has composed more than 800 minutes of digital music. A selection of her recent compositions was broadcast live over Kunstradio Radiotopia acoustic network Vienna in September 2002. Hsin Hsin has been invited to contribute to the Bill Clinton show in New York City in October 2003. There she composed lyrics, images and music to bring the “truth and lies” segment to live.
Hsin Hsin has published five volumes of poetry. What I like about her poems is that they are accessible and enjoyable. She is a genius for words, puns and rhymes. She has a sense of humour and delights in life’s ironies. She gently pokes fun at many of society’s pretensions, follies and injustices. She does it all charmingly and effortlessly.
have enjoyed reading this volume of Hsin Hsin’s poems. I hope you will too.
