  • It's my pleasure to say a few words to provide some context for today's celebration of the 20th anniversary of the remarkable Lin Hsin Hsin Art Museum. Pioneering artists like Lin Hsin Hsin help the rest of us, the population as a whole, not only to see life in new ways. They don't just reflect on what already exists, making us think about it differently from before. They do that, but they do more. What they do more is to guide us and inspire us to see whole new ways of creating reality. We therefore become aware of new possibilities. In other words, they show us a new future.

In the case of Lin Hsin Hsin, the new future involves new interactions of digital and analogue; new interactions of the mathematical and the material; new interactions of the virtual and the physical.

  • Lin Hsin Hsin has always been at the forefront of applying information technology to artistic endeavours throughout her career. This polymathic expertise has been possible through her educational foundation in mathematics and computer science in England together with her studies of art, music, printmaking, papermaking, etc., in Singapore and elsewhere. She eschews the use of standard software packages, writing all the software for her artistic digital creations herself, using a computer mouse as a "paintbrush" for her artwork.

  • Through the ages, there have always been those who lead and those who have been lead, in science, technology, literature and art. Hsin Hsin is a trail-blazer, pushing the envelope for us in unchartered seas, this time in cyberspace. Through her marvellous collections of original oil paintings, paper works, ceramics, sculptures and digital art Hsin Hsin has created an entirely new experience; the virtual museum. She has tweaked this metaphorical space into an all encompassing experience, reminiscence of a real art museum, with not only tour guides, video theatre, cafeteria and shop but with a wealth of original art works that exist solely in their digital medium and are a delight for the eyes.
