In September 2005, Lin has performed in Pisa, Italy, Bourges, France in June 2005 and 2004
In September 2002 Lin's work was invited by Kunstradio Radiotopia acoustic network
-- an artistic project commissioned by the 2002 Ars Electronica Festival and
co-produced by ORF Kunstradio, Vienna to present her works in a live broadcast arts radio program.
As Lin does not subscribe to analog or digital sound sampling,
she created a virtual sound board to create sound
and/or music interactively on the Web, in June 2006.
She has successfully created a spectrum of sound in nature:
rain forests, sound of water in many manifestation,
sound of wind traveling at different velocities, just to name a few.
In the beginning...
Contrary to the common belief, the mathematically and computer science trained Lin is a firm believer
in producing music on a PC without a sound card. from conceptualization to composing,
from sound calibration to mastering. As such, all her digital compositions are completely created and realized
without sound card and without
any musical and midi instruments.
Lin speaks about the relationship between the modal idiom and the cadential patterns,
the language of mathematics, the calibration and speed of sound. This is not surprising
as she has written programs to produce Minuets and Polonaise from the Anna Magdalena Suite
by Johann Sebastian Bach on her first IBM PC XT as early as 1985
Lin has composed more than 1,500 minutes of music since 2001. Her extensive repertoire includes:
“Music moves me like the awesomeness of the universe.
For me, music and the universe are synonymous; the one is the celebration of the other”.
